“Where Stability Becomes Legacy”

Each year, more than 15,000 young people in the U.S. exit foster care through emancipation, or "aging out", often without stable housing, financial support, or a safety net.Across the country, 3 in 10 adults experiencing homelessness have spent time in foster care; an unmistakable signal that existing systems too often fail to support young people as they transition into independent adulthood.
Prince George’s County stands at a critical inflection point, and a powerful opportunity. With a growing number of young people aging out of foster care each year, the county is uniquely positioned to lead with innovation, coordination, and compassion. The work already underway across housing, workforce development, education, and behavioral health demonstrates a strong foundation for change.

My Legacy Group is a 501(c)(3) organization, created to provide transitional housing and structured life-skills support for young adults aging out of foster care — bridging the gap between system involvement and independent legacy building. We focus not only on safe housing, but on the tools young people need to thrive: stability, confidence, and community.

Stability
Stability begins with safe, reliable housing and is reinforced through structured programming designed for real life. Residents have a secure place to live, clear expectations, and consistent support — creating the foundation needed to focus on growth, not survival. Stability means knowing where you will sleep, who you can turn to, and what comes next.
Confidence
Confidence is built through self-awareness, social-emotional learning, and practical independence skills. MLG supports young adults in understanding themselves, managing emotions, making informed decisions, and navigating adulthood with clarity. Through guided learning and real-world practice, residents develop the confidence to advocate for themselves, pursue opportunities, and trust their ability to move forward.

Community
Community is the network that holds everything together. At MLG, community includes roommates who share lived experiences, staff who lead with care, alumni who stay connected, and trusted program and community partners. Residents do not navigate transition alone, they are surrounded by people and relationships which offer support, accountability, and belonging during and beyond their time in the program.
My Legacy Group, Inc. (MLG), located in Prince Georges County Maryland, is a transitional housing provider, created to empower transition-aged foster youth with a stable, nurturing residential environment. Our approach is unique, offering a holistic support system that includes mental health and wellness programs, fostering a community environment that encourages peer support and mentorship. In order to expand our resources, MLG will actively maintain community partnerships with local businesses, other nonprofits, and government agencies; also enhancing our visibility, and facilitating smoother transitions for our residents to independent living.
We serve as a vital bridge to independence and legacy building by fostering stability, confidence, and community, empowering our residents to create meaningful, self-sufficient lives rooted in dignity.
Every young person deserves the opportunity to build a meaningful and productive life, regardless of their background. We strive to build a strong, resilient community of young adults in transition, within PG County, where resources and care are accessible to all.

I grew up in the Bronx in the 1980s, in a neighborhood where community was a given—where neighbors looked out for one another and no one was left to figure life out alone. As the years passed, I watched that village slowly disappear. Support systems fractured, and too many young people were left without guidance, stability, or a sense of belonging. As a single mother, I understand how critical it is to have support during life’s most defining transitions. That understanding is why My Legacy Group, Inc. centers its work on young adults aging out of foster care — a population often expected to step into adulthood without family, resources, or a safety net. These young people deserve more than survival; they deserve the opportunity to build a legacy rooted in stability, confidence, and community. My Legacy Group was created to restore the village — to provide not just housing, but a foundation where young people can belong, grow, and create futures they can be proud to pass forward.
